My name is Jorge Leal, I'm a bilingual writer living in Los Angeles. My areas of interests are: diasporic communities and their artistic expressions. I have written about culture and arts, entertainment, politics and football (soccer). I have published for several outlets in Southern California: The Wave Newspapers, Los Angeles Independent, La Ola, Al Borde & Ventura County Star to name a few. Some of my articles have also been published in Mexico (Zumo, La PusModerna) and Spain (Zona de Obras). These days most of my contributions are published on Zona de Obras as I serve as the publication’s U.S. correspondent.
Since 2007 I have also been working for Mun2, as the writer for VIVO, Mun2's weekly variety show. I occasionally work as a gallery educator at the Los Angeles County Museum of Art (LACMA).
Currently I am working towards a Masters in History at California State University, Northridge, my graduate coursework deals with Urban History and Cultural Studies. I am interested in the transformations of the southeast communities in Los Angeles County as well as the expressions of Latino youth subcultures.
